In Spring...

The quote... In spring, a young man's fancy turns to love. In spring, sex is everywhere. In spring, we get to enjoy the show we see outside our little deck.

This little couple has made their home (as they did last year) in the street lamp. Yes, IN the street lamp. Each morning, he (we assume it's the male of the pair) wakes up and sings... loudly! These little creatures are up by about 4:30 a.m. and that street lamp is almost directly in front of our building. Needless to say, we really don't need the alarm clock at this time of year.

In the second picture, you can just make out the body of one of the pair. He, or she, is just entering their "suite"; this little bird must be sitting on a nest because it didn't come out again for quite some time.

I love watching "the neighbours"!

Sandon, BC

I think in previous posts with pictures taken in the same town, I wrote that it was the town of Silverton. It's Sandon. There's more information about Sandon here.

Just Cuz

Because I still have a few pictures in the folder, I decided to keep posting. It just won't be on a daily basis as during the Lent Project.

This was taken at a winery a few years ago. I don't remember off hand which one, but Gail, if you see this, you may recognize it. It's in the Oliver/Osoyoos area, one of the many wineries in that area.

Easter Sunday

Lake Okanagan Floating Bridge(s). The bridge in the foreground is being dismantled. The bridge in the distance is the new bridge, built beside the old bridge.

This is the last picture in the Lent Project. Happy Easter everyone!

Day Thirty-Five

I must confess that I did not take this picture. My daughter, Alaina, did. We were out for a drive with a friend, stopped at this old farm and did some exploring. She came running over, grabbed the camera out of my hands and took a few pictures. This is one of them. I love this picture.

Day Twenty-Nine

Tickets from one of our first "real" dates. John bought us tickets to see the Gipsy Kings in Vancouver; we were living in Kamloops at the time. Since the concert was close to my birthday, this was a birthday present as well as a date and a getaway. It was a wonderful night of music and memories. I've kept the ticket stubs ever since.

Ah, nostalgia!

Day Twenty-Two

Trophy Mountain Meadows, located in Wells Gray Park, BC. This has to be one of my favourite places. Yesterday's picture was taken on the hike to get to this spot. When you break out of the trees and see the meadows, it's absolutely breathtaking. Except for the blackflies, that is.

Helmcken Falls, in Wells Gray Park. Spectacular in the summer, even more spectacular in the winter.

There will be no posting for the next three days; I'm getting on a bus and going to visit family for the weekend. Posting will resume on Tuesday.

Day Seven - The Lent Project

Taken on a road trip, somewhere between Kamloops and Salmon Arm. There was just something rather poignant about this old tractor. Maybe there's a message here for all of us... keep smiling even when you're "in the weeds"?

Day 1 The Lent Project

The gauntlet has been tossed. My sister, who blogs over at Capricious Cogitation*, wrote "I was talking to someone who said that she ought to take more pictures AND that she really enjoyed last Lent's project. So I threw down the gauntlet and challenged her to do her own Photos for Lent project." The "she" in that quote would have been me.

So, I've taken up the gauntlet. There's no theme here, really. Well, there is sort of a theme, I suppose. I've been going through old photographs, about 10 years worth. I've tossed out a lot of them and want to scan others before tossing them out. The pictures I'll be posting will be some of those scans.

Before you say anything, sumonesmom, I know it isn't taking the pictures on a daily basis, but these are pictures I've not shared with anyone, generally speaking. It's a job that needs to get done and this is a good way of tackling the (small) mountain of pictures.

And so.... Day 1. I don't remember the name of the lighthouse, but it's on Vancouver Island, taken on a trip more than 10 years ago. I'm glad I found this picture; it's one of my favourites.

But What Is It?

I have no idea what this plant is, but it's definitely interesting.

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Oh Deer!

We're stepping into the time machine and going backwards. In other words, I've been going through old photographs, scanning the ones I think are worthy of a photo blog and tossing out those that aren't. Enjoy.

I'm Back

With a new scanner (the old one is dead), I can again upload pictures that have been in storage for years.

A former boyfriend and I used to drive up to Wells Gray Park quite often, hiking to a variety of waterfalls in the park. One day, I spotted these fungi growing in the undergrowth beside the path. I have no idea what they are, but I found them fascinating.
